| I was reading today in the Milk Cow Kitchen book about the importance of apple cider vinegar and how it helps to keep the cows parasite free, along with garlic. Do the rest of you use apple cider vinegar? And where do you purchase it? Any good place to purchase it in bulk? |

| Yes, I give them Braggs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. I buy it in Gallon jugs through Amazon. I pour it into a pan and they have what they want of it when they want it. But remember what MaryJane's book says and don't offer free choice apple cider vinegar and sodium bicarbonate at the same time. MaryJane says ROTATIONAL basis only. |

| Thanks Janet. Glad to hear that I can get it through Amazon. Yes, I did read about rotating the sodium bicarbonate with the apple cider vinegar. Thanks for the reminder, though! I am getting Clover's space ready for when she returns from breeding. |

So, Janet, how often do you rotate the two supplements? Just an approximation would be helpful.

| I'm only offering the vinegar at this time. I have an order for Modesto Milling and have it coming but until then I won't be offering it. When it comes I will have to figure out something so that we don't have the problem mentioned in MJ book. May offer the vinegar a few days then pick it up and out of reach, wait a day or so before offering the sodium bicarbonate. Sure don't need any problems. Might be a good question for MaryJane when she returns. |

| I usually just put a glut of ACV in the water pan for the cows. A healthy glue to ten gallons of water. |

| Ron, do you still let your cows access to sodium bicarbonate at the same time while giving them a good dose of ACV in the water? |

Mainly I only give the baking soda in early spring when the grass is greening up and pull it later in the summer and give acv in the water. Sheep always had the baking soda in front of them and acv in the water, no problem. I never gave the acv straight but just in the water. I don't think we are as prone to parasites in this part of the country as other places. I think good food,water and minerals keep things in balance.
We don't do chlorinated , fluoridated water either . It really does make a difference to not have chlorine in the water even in small amounts. Figure if an animal drinks 15 or more gallons a day that can add up fast. |

| Thanks, Ron. We are on a well as most cow people would be, I think. So I'm grateful we don't have to worry about chlorine or fluoride in our water. |

| Think about it. Chlorine kills stuff. Even in parts per million over a period of time as much as a cow can drink it don't sound good. Don't even ask about the fluoride. It is actually a toxic substance as well as the alum and some of the othe additives in pipeline water. Worth checking out if you don't run on a well. |

| We are on a well, fortunately, and have great water! The well is slow producing but wonderful tasting and we got a great report on it. |

| I just bought Bragg's apple cider vinegar on-line last night. I was able to get it from Walmart (of all places!) but it was the cheapest, in bulk (4 gallons) and free shipping. It will be here with a couple of days. So, thanks for all the advice! |
