Does anybody here use Chaffhaye as your single source of hay over the winter months? If so, how much do you feed each day?
If you combine it with other hay, how much chaffhaye do you feed vs. other hay, and what type of other hay do you feed? |

| I used Chaffhaye for several years and my cows liked it. I always serve my girls both alfalfa and grass because for whatever reason (nutritional or roughage needs?), my cows pick one over the other. Sometimes they turn their nose up at the alfalfa and sometimes the grass. So for that reason, I also offered them grass hay when the alfalfa they got was Chaffhaye. I used to bring it here by the pallet load and re-sell some of it. But for some reason, our area was no longer part of their delivery route. I think it's a good product. Occasionally, a sack goes bad but you'll know it because of its off-smell. |

| I'm struggling to remember exactly. If you're feeding them alfalfa hay now, say a 5-inch flake, it would be less if feeding Chaffhaye because it's more compact. Sorry I can't be more exact. I had quite a herd back then, all different ages, sizes, plus a couple of bulls. I seem to remember dumping each sack into a large container to avoid wasting any on the floor when opening a sack. Every drop seemed precious. I liked the way every piece was eaten. They didn't pick through it like they do dry alfalfa. |
