We finally got back Clover's mineral report that was done back in November. I think the report somehow got lost. However, the report states that the serum sample contains a lower than adequate phosphorus concentration.
So, what supplement should we be adding to Clover's diet? She is getting grass hay, Chaffhaye, Modesto Mills dairy pellets, and kelp. |

I wouldn't know anything about this(okay, I might know something, but not what to add to her diet), but I hope you can get her straightened out. Helpful, aren't I? |

The minerals I give my cows are called Hi Phos Dairy Premix O from Wick's Livestock Nutrition in Nebraska, 402-925-2475, http://www.wickslivestock.com/
Dairy cows being low in phosphorus is fairly common but because I do the minerals my cows have never tested low in it. I'll send some minerals home with Ethan today. They mix into the Chaffhaye nicely. |

To start out with, give Clover, Betsy, and Tony a scant 1/4 cup per day mixed in with some Chaffhaye. Humble would get less. After you get her levels up, you can cut back. I've been cutting back a tad because when I had Rosetta's levels tested recently she was on the high end for copper and selenium. Selenium is something animals around here are easily low in. |

This is a good reminder and thank you for sending some home with Ethan. We had been feeding the cows Wick's minerals and then somehow that fell through the cracks ... forgot all about it. Oh bother. But we will order more. :)
I did remember that our area is low in selenium ... I always have to be careful with my goats about that one.
So, folks, get Wick's dairy minerals for your animals! |
