Posted - Sep 26 2015 : 08:59:53 AM I will be transporting my new cow and calf from Indiana to Oklahoma. The vet that will be doing the vet check before I purchase said a certain vaccine wasn't necessary in Indiana (TB, I think).
Anyway, where do I go to find out if I will need ear tags or can just do tatoos pertaining to my state?
Thanks for the help in direction. |

Posted - Sep 26 2015 : 09:22:14 AM There isn't a vaccine for TB. Maybe she said your animal didn't need a Bang's vaccine (Brucellosis)? It has to be given between 4 months of age and 12 months to a heifer and they put a tattoo in the ear when given. Additionally, a blood sample has to be taken and tested for Brucellosis before transportation, but these things do vary from state to state.

And here is where you can find the regulations for Oklahoma: http://www.ag.ok.gov/ais/import.htm
On Monday, give them a call. I've always found everyone to be super helpful.
These things can seem overwhelming when you're first starting out, so hang in there. Ha, I thought a heifer was a breed like a Holstein or Hereford. |
