For the last three weeks, I've been getting a slight coagulation in the CMT cup in one of Maizy's quarters and on occasion there have been flecks of tiny yellow "confetti" in the milk when I strain it. I've been putting about 1 to 2 T Ester-C in her alfalfa treat every day by adding it first to about a cup of pellets in a small plastic container, putting a squirt of water in it, adding the lid, and then shaking it vigorously so the Vit. C powder sticks to the pellets. Then, I mix that in with more pellets in her tray. That way, she can't eat around it, leaving the powder. Yesterday I started to feel like maybe I should do an antibiotic infusion into her one quarter/teat so I made an appt. to take her over to WSU for that. (I have yet to resort to antibiotics.) I also got impatient and gave her probably a 1/2 cup or more of Vit C powder yesterday, thinking it couldn't hurt. Today, when I milked her (just before needing to load her in the trailer to take her to the WSU Vet school for an infusion), she was COMPLETELY clear of any sign of infection. I even checked again after milking. Gone! And when I filtered the milk, absolutely nothing. I loved it that I had to cancel my appt. On the other hand, she may have heard me tell someone I was taking her to the vet. She's tapped in that way, you know. At any rate, I couldn't get the smile off my face all day. Just so very happy to know all is normal again. Ester C reigns in my book!

I am ordering some today. Thanks for the reminder! Even though I am not milking Clover, I am milking goats and I think that the same protocol would help them if I ever needed it. Haven't yet...knock on wood.

Found it MJ thank you. I will have to check into different forages for cattle also that might be a higher content of C also.

I get it from the people who created it--the same folks Janet mentioned:
http://www.thewholisticpet.com/products/equine-product-line/health-care-supplements/wholistic-ester-cr.html

Part of what happened with Maizy was that I weaned her calf at six months (always a stressful time for baby and mama) and mid-way through that transition, I ran out of Ester-C for a few days until more arrived. After this, I will ALWAYS have some waiting in the fridge for when I run out in my milking parlor.

Where do you purchase your MJ

Great idea. With Sienna about to have her calf, I just as well have more on hand. Better to have plenty than to run out when you desperately need it.

I buy two at a time in the 1 lb. size they offer and keep one unopened in my fridge until I need it.

Good Morning Ron! I bought mine at Amazon.com but you can get it at TheWholisticPetcom. it's in MaryJane's book pg.215. I'm sure there are other places too. It's called Wholistic pet Organics Ester-C

Where can one find this product.

Such good news. I did exactly what you recommended to me, wetting the alfalfa treat and sprinkling it on and shaking it so the Vit Esther-C would stick. The lump on Nellies' udder has gone. I've watched daily for mastitis and nothing, negative. So thankful that you found Ester-C could help. I will always have it on hand here now.
