Hello! My name is Madison and I just bought my first milk cow! Well she will be, when she grows up. She’s a purebred jersey and she’s six months old and I’ve named her Lorie Darlin. I got her so young because I have two little boys and wanted to train her to be very comfortable and calm around kids, because these little cowboys are busy! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I do have one question for you more experienced milk cow owners, does the A2A2 genetic make a difference? The small dairy that I got her from didn’t do the testing and I’ve been wanting to do it but I’m wondering if it comes black as A1 if it’s really that big of a deal? Thanks so much! I’m excited to be here!

Sorry to hear your unfortunate news, Madison. Any idea at all why she took ill? If I come across anyone near on the Wasatch back I will let you know. I miss looking out my window at the beautiful Wasatch range.

Madison, I'm so sorry to hear about your little calf passing away. That is sad news. It's never easy going through a loss, especially when looking forward to and awaiting their arrival.

Thanks Mary Jane! Unfortunately our sweet calf passed away unexpectedly last week, we have no idea why. We are all just devastated, me and my little boy especially. We are on the hunt for another jersey to be our milk cow and if you have any recommendations on where to look I would greatly appreciate it! We are located in central Utah on the Wasatch back. Thanks so much!

Good morning Madison, and congrats on your little darlin', Lorie (love her name). My grandgirls (my daughter, husband and three children live and work here with us, also my son, his wife and two daughters) have benefitted from being around and helping raise or bottle feed calves.

Love this photo a friend sent to me of her granddaughter.

With regards to A2A2, here's a link to a long discussion from quite a while ago that might help. I haven't even tested my most recent calf for A2A2 because, other than for marketing purposes, it doesn't matter to me.
