Posted - Sep 20 2015 : 1:27:58 PM Yesterday Betsy was in heat so I'm marking the calendar as we plan to breed her to my son's new bull, Sir Anthony, this fall. We will have a beautiful Guernsey/Jersey cross! I am thrilled with the thought! |

Posted - Oct 18 2015 : 7:45:42 PM I am comfortable with the idea of waiting a bit more for nature to take its course. Miss Betsy will continue to hang out with Mr. Tony ... hopefully, we'll notice if Betsy does go into heat. I'd hate to miss it and then not have an accurate due date! |

Posted - Oct 17 2015 : 09:05:20 AM You might want to consult WSU's Theriogenology Department, specifically Dr. Pearson since she did Tony's Breeding Soundness Exam and is somewhat up to speed on your situation (also having met Ethan). If it were me, I'd wait a few more months (doing just what you're doing) before thinking about any kind of hormone protocol. I ended up using a hormone protocol on Fanci to get her pregnant live mount with Samson but she's a much older cow and with a shadowy history. My youngun's have all had observable estrus symptoms. I'm hoping Lacy Lou is pregnant because ever since she was eight months old, she's mooed for three days every 21!!!! |

Posted - Oct 16 2015 : 8:00:24 PM No heat yet seen for Betsy. She and Tony are looking like quite the comfortable couple. Should I be worried? Or just give it more time? |

Posted - Sep 22 2015 : 1:27:34 PM I've been dreaming of Betsy and Tony's future calf! Both of them are beautiful animals so I'm excited to think what their calf would look like. Yes to a rich red coat with white splattered paint ... I think a July 20 calf would be about perfect, too. Of course, if it is a heifer then Ethan will keep her which would be grand! :-)
And, Betsy's milk?? I cannot wait for that, either! I remember all the cream that Ron talks about from Harriet, so I'm hoping Betsy takes after her mama! |

Posted - Sep 20 2015 : 6:12:04 PM Congratulations!!!! 21 days from now will be Oct 11 for a July 20 calf:) Seriously, the combination of Betsy and Tony's thick red coats splattered in white paint will be stunning. With probably a white star forehead. Holy cow, 9 months is forever when it comes to cow cupidry. |
