I thought it high time I started a September thread. Where did 19 days go?

The news here? It's raining! Finally. Just coming down. The air is clean and fresh again. We've had smoke days that were 499 on a haze scale of 1 to 500. Almost zero visibility. Another reason face masks help.

A few fecund farm photos:

Love dove pears, a true pairing.

New little peach tree planted this spring.

And nectarine tree planted last fall.

Peach tree planted three years ago is loaded! I'm watching it like a hawk and have plenty of support in place. Even so, I removed several peaches for ripening inside because the branch they were on was looking too stressed.

Picked my last nectarine yesterday. We've eaten probably a 100 of them this year.

Found a ex-paratrooper, army medic clearly not afraid of heights to mend some leaks in our barn roof (he has climbing gear on attached to a rope that goes up over the top attached to his car).

My cow gals are doing fine. I have milk customers for all our milk presently. Rosetta got her second set of vaccines this past week. This coming week she'll get her Bang's vac and Daisy and Buttercup will get their annual TB tests as required by Idaho's Raw Milk Program.

B&B is coming along. Our shower house got a metal roof (rather than canvas), electricity, and a permanent sewer hook-up so we can install two toilets.

Before:

After:

And one of our cottages is getting a deck.

And I'm working on the Christmas issue of my magazine. After 20 years, I've never gotten used to thinking about winter when it's still so very much summer.

Hope all is well with all of you and you're getting some autumn rain also.

Good morning! So nice to see progress and beautiful fruit trees and flowering trees. Just lovely! We finally had 3" of rain, but we are still in a severe drought. Things didn't do well this year. Only thing blooming here are my orchids and roses. Such beauty is breathtaking. I'm so thankful to have them, they certainly bring a smile. Roses have had to be watered weekly. Yesterday we butchered our cornish cross broilers. Not such pleasant photo, but realistic. We set up the day before so we would be ready to go right after milking. Only had seven to do. The plucker I purchased was an absolute treasure. Hoping for more rain, but nothing in the works until maybe end of week. Wait and see. Both Millie and Nellie due in Oct. Three cows in milk. Enjoy the autumn days and the grand colors!

Well...where has 23 days of September gone?

It is Autumn already. My favorite time of year. We hardly get one here. Indian Summers are more common. This Sunday is forecast for 95, and 98 for Monday and Tuesday. Not fall weather in my book.

I bought a new food dehydrator and have been loving it. Until I was making a batch of apple rings using the mandolin slicer. Yep, they include a guard for a reason. Made a nice flap on the side of my right thumb. Cleaned it up and wrapped it tight. It shall heal!!! Second time I have done that with the darn thing. I think I will retire it.

MaryJane, It is looking like we won't be moving until close to a year from now. However, I would love for you to share the variety of your plum, peach, pear, and necterine trees. They are stunning for as young as they are.
Love seeing all the progress on the B&B coming together. The thought of Christmas is about the last thing on my mind right now, but I know you have to work months in advance for the magazine and all.

Janet, I love your flowers. So pretty and good for the soul.
I have looked at those pluckers for future reference, but am holding off. There is a young man where we are moving who has a mobile operation.
You can rent it, or have him help, or he will do the job for you. So those are fantastic options. I do hope you get some rain. Here in California I am all to familiar with dry times. So thankful we are not in a fire area, but heart broken for those who are and have lost so much.

Hope Everyone has a Wonderful start to Autumn.
