Good morning! Just another day on the farm. All is rolling along and nothing new. Estella is sore this morning from her vaccinations, so I spent some moments with her this morning trying to make her feel better. Nellie is a month away yet for her calving. So, doing the usual summer things and taking delight in the beauty that each day brings. This is momma barn swallow's second hatch in same nest this year. Four the first time and five little bobble heads this time.

Good morning! Pollinators and birds--some of life's best delights.

Oh, and just-plucked veggies.

The flower gardens' of little girls (although Stella is quickly outstepping both her Nanny and mother with a size 9 foot already!)

And this year's honey harvest so far. (It's going straight from the back of my flow hive into sellable jars for our farm store.)

Female names like Estella always take us back in time. This December I'm looking forward to stepping back into the latest rendition of Little Women.

Good morning MaryJane! Everything looks so pretty. Cosmos and swallowtail butterfly. Summer is a flitting. I haven't harvested honey yet. Should probably do that sooner than later. My horizontal hives are so full, I can't even get them apart. I really like them. So I will leave them and know they will be well provided for this winter. Just put up some sweet corn yesterday, picked my cabbages, and tomatoes and peppers as they ripen. Won't it be nice to see the new rendition of Little Women. Something to look forward to this winter.

Twice now I've had to pick peaches (nectarines?) off the peach tree that didn't give me the ONE fuzzy peach last year (that tree doesn't have any peaches this year but is now 10 feet tall and healthy as can be). My nectarine???? tree is loaded so I've had to remove fruit twice. My latest removal netted me a bucket of nuggets that I'm eating! They're very peach-ey in flavor and oh so good. I will have to check my orchard records to see what kind of peach tree it is, because these peaches are without fuzz.

Buttercup was confirmed pregnant yesterday from a blood sample. Her "Ian" calf will be due April 29. I've started training her in the parlor. So far, she hasn't let me lock her head in but she does like to stand with her head in the doorway and watch me milk Daisy.

How is Nellie doing in her pregnancy Janet?

I'm still amazed that I have peach trees in my climate.

Good morning! Congratulations on Buttercup's pregnancy! As far as I can tell Nellie is doing fine. Won't be long now, the way time passes by so quickly. Another Memorial ride has come and gone. Best one yet. Weather was perfect and things went so smoothly. I've been making Elderberry Syrup. I will make a couple more batches and that should carry us through the winter months. Harvested some honey as well so it's been busy. 3.5 inches of rain with storm leaving it's mark. Not bad here, just downed limbs and branches. Needed the rain. Now hot and humid. Enjoy the day!

Good to hear your Memorial Ride was a success.

Do you process your Elderberry with sweetener or without? And do you take a spoonful daily or do you put it on pancakes, etc.? My mother made both Elderberry and Chokecherry syrup that we put on pancakes, sweetened with sugar.

I use honey for sweetener. One recipe from The Lost Book of Remedies, and the other from Mountain Rose Herbs. Suppose to be a flu preventative. Tbsp daily and more if you feel you may be coming down with something. My grandmother would make Elderberry soup with dumplings. I never cared for it because it was sweet. Many health benefits from elderberries, and they are ripe right now. I have a couple bushes here on the farm which makes it convenient.
