My name is Maureen and my family and I bought our farm 4 years ago. We just purchased our first calves this past summer. One of them is a beautiful Jersey named Rose. The other 2 are Jersey/Hereford. They are all very pretty. Rose is the youngest and smallest. We are new to having cows. We have horses, chickens, goats, one duck and now 3 calves. Our intention is to breed our cows see how is goes from there. I have learned that things don't always go as intended. We were actually only going to get 2 calves but couldn't pass up Rose so we brought her home too.
We live in Wisconsin, right by the Mississippi River.
I will be looking for lots of advice because I am learning as I go.

| Hearty big welcome Maureen! My first Jersey milk cow was named Rose. I milked her with my first born on my back in 1979. Your entire menagerie sounds wonderful. Yes, farming is one great big learning opportunity. Every time my girls (and bull boys) teach me one more hard lesson, I remember to thank them, my critters. |

oh maureen, rose is just gorgeous. how old is she now? she has similar coloring to my elsa. and just curious, what color is her switch (the hair at the end of her tail)?
i think i might just have to come steal her away to come to texas and keep sally o'mally, elsa and beatrice company. and warning - cows are addictive! don't think you'll stop where you are, they are truly like large dogs and are just so sweet and fun. |

Rose was born 4/12/16 so she is still a baby, at least to me she is. She is the still small enough to squeeze through into the feeder and get into the middle when it gets low. It's like her play pen. She also thinks it is a great place for a break and likes to nap there too. My other 2 who are half Hereford and bigger than her, they are too wide to fit through the feeder. It won't be long before she will be too big also.
I believe her switch is white. |

yes maureen, i asked because with a white muzzle i was sure she had a white switch. i am in LOVE with jersey's with white muzzles, white splashes, and white switches.
i have two girls colored like that, and then one all golden brown jersey with a dark switch. but they are all so loveable, i just adore them all. |

| And I have to add that Rose's eyes are particularly gorgeous--big and very dark chocolate against the white. Just lovely. I could get lost in those eyes. |

Welcome Maureen! I have to agree with everyone else's comments about your Rose. She is so very pretty! I do like all of her contrasting markings. She is very striking!

We also have goats on our farm. They are constant entertainment. They usually keep me company whenever I am doing work around the farm. I made a shelter today for the goat pen. I am hoping to get more goats so they are going to need more housing. My boy Frank moved right in after I built it. So glad he approves.

My goats are all boys. But I am looking into getting some to breed. Nigerian Dwarf. They are suppose to be great milkers. And they are very cute.
We have one buck, who was the runt and sterile. We call him Jack. Got him from the same farm as Rose. He was a freebie. I fell in love with him instantly. Everyone who meets him does. He touches everyones soul and makes everyone smile.

This is the welcome wagon forum (under all forums). You are posting on a thread I created called, "Salutations from Massachusetts" which, generally, has things about our farm. If you want to continue to post on this thread, you are absolutely welcome. I really don't mind. In fact, I love it. I can see all your posts and get notifications of your postings, which is fine for me. But there may be a better option for you.
If you want to create a thread on welcome wagon of your very own this is possible. Go to All Forums, then Welcome Wagon, Start a new thread and entitle it anything you like. We can all go there and look at your posts. If you need any help posting, there is an awesome FAQ section and lots of good administrative help. Reach out to me if you need any help.
