i have had my "milk cow kitchen" by my side since it came out, look at it several times weekly, etc... and i JUST noticed this last week that the spine says "Mary Jane's workbook series - farm kitchen - volume #1"... so MJ can you divulge what the rest of the series might be? i know you are working on a bread book, and i thought another cheese/creamery book... note sure if these are part of the series.

the thought of a whole workbook series has just got me all excited, like an old time set of encyclopedias!! i LOVE it!

hi val, cindy here aka"txbikergirl". yes one of mj's cows will be joining our family. i feel really honored. this will be my first cow ever, let alone a milk cow. my hubby and i have planned for several years now and 2015 was always the "year of the cow" for us, but there was a time when searching for our cow that i didn't think it would happen as there aren't enough healthy, natural, pasture fed milk cows out there.

i was lucky enough to be honored with miss sally o'mally to join our farmstead family. mj is going to breed her again, if possible, before she heads our way in september. mj knows someone that trailers livestock, i believe it is one of the very active member's hubby/son combo here on HJO, so we want them to bring her to us as i just don't think i could do the 30 hour trip each way fast enough for miss sally o'mally.

I will agree with txbikergal - since buying my Milk Cow Kitchen book a few months ago, I have not put it down for very long!! Such a beautiful book - the pictures and explanations of everything really adds to a feeling of confidence in taking on a dairy cow. I am SO excited about this - and I'm looking forward to getting a milk cow with the next 9 months I hope.

I am even more excited to have found out about a series that Mary Jane is working on - I love baking bread and look forward to learning even more about it! One can never know all of it!!

Txbikergal - are you buying a cow from MaryJane? Will it be shipped to you or are you going to pick her up?

And here I am in a purging mode, thinking that I had too many refrigerators and freezers. Not so! We have two refrigerators and a chest freezer, along with a fridge just set aside for my goat milk and eggs that I sell. I'm wondering if I just might need another fridge for Clover's milk and cheeses? :-) Someday I think it would be wonderful to have a very large commercial fridge and freezer for all the farm milk. Perhaps find a used unit someday ...

I have two refrigerators a chest freezer and when fatty stops stealing all the milk I'll need one for cheese as well. :) I guess it's technically his milk, but whatever. . .

we already have two refrigerators in the kitchen! when we remodeled our last house i put two refrig in the kitchen, decided we would NEVER be without that again. so we already have two large refrig and a wine refrig in this kitchen... and another refrig and two freezers in the garage... and a beverage refrig for the outdoor summer kitchen... so maybe i do need another refrig, maybe i don't ;> but a separate refrig for making cheese - oh you betcha!!

this is a wonderful journey, i look forward to all the surprise along the way.

and LOVE that photo mj

I mean ... guys buy refrigerators for just their beer.

No kidding Cindy. We did have to buy an additional refrigerator for the milk. MaryJane you're just getting into the milk again and I'm already mourning the loss of milk/cream/cheese, when I dry up my girls. Only for a couple three months. I don't know how we will get along. :(

well i look forward to each and every addition to the series. there is something about a series, and knowing that they will all be as beautiful and informative as the milk cow kitchen makes me excited.

thanks for all your hard work, we appreciate it.

my hubby was just freaking out about the quantity of milk we will have, he loves to razz me and was going on and on about buying me a refrig just for milk ;> i keep reminding him how much milk it takes to make butter, yogurt and cheese so we are just going to have "enough" milk and he then relaxes.

Always something to be said for big girls. :)

You just may be the first to notice:) Yes, the bread book coming up next is #2 in my Farm Kitchen series. MaryJane's Outpost was #1 and Glamping w/MaryJane #2 in my Outpost series. MaryJane's Stitching Room was #1 in Stitching Room series.

The idea is to produce seven series named after the seven chapters in my first Ideabook: Each Other, Farm Kitchen, Garden Gate, Stitching Room, Make It Easy, Outpost, and Cleaning Up. So, books until I'm a 100. No problem! (My kids can take over where I leave off.)

I was just down checking on everyone. Also there to give Ester Lily her nightcap bottle with grandgirl's help (Ester is drinking real milk now) and captured a pic of Sally O'Mally asleep in the straw. Curled up around her were all the sleeping youngsters, Elsa (my grandgirls have made it a point to tell me how much they love SAYING Elsa), Ester Lily, and Lacy Lou. Very sweet. Will post.

Also, I measured milk this morning separately. Miss Daisy gave me 2 gallons. Sally O'Mally 2.5 gallons. I figure if Ester Lily was drinking 2 gallons/day early on and drinking close to three now, that Sally O'Mally would be giving 4 to 5 gallons if she wasn't nursing a calf.

Even so, we don't have all the milk we need. My big girl Fanci is the idea behind LOTS of milk.
